FCP Euro Service Kits

FCP Euro Kits

Damn it, Audi. You make such good cars, especially in the performance realm. You've given the U.S. the R8 V10, plus, the supremely quick RS3, and the RS7 among others. And yet, you snub us on what is quite possibly the coolest car you makethe Audi RS4 Avant.

The RS4 Avant, or wagon to those not fluent in European market speak, is a blisteringly fast hot wagon made by Audi. And we can't have it, because Audi hasn't brought an S4 Avant to the states since 2008, let alone an RS 4 Avant (never). The current 2019 model makes 444 horsepower and 443 lb-ft from a 2.9 liter twin-turbo V6 and is stupid fast. The base model is electronically limited to a 155mph top speed, but if you opt for the RS Dynamic Package it will crank the top speed to 174. This, of course, will make your daily errands very exciting.

But what makes this car truly nuts is the 0-60 time of 4-seconds. However, that's Audi's number and we all know how European car companies like to sandbag with their performance numbers. This RS4 Avant has been tested independently and has hit as low as 3.5 seconds (!) in the same speed frame. To put that into perspective, that's faster than a BMW M4 Competition, Cadillac ATS-V, and even the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat (non widebody). Even though this is a performance wagon, those are staggering numbers. Hellcat speed in a classy German wagon? Sold. This may be the best RS Audi has ever made.

You'd think with the current hot hatchback revolution in the US some European car makers would bring over their hot wagons as well. Alas, we cannot have this amazing wagon. So here's a glorious yet sad reminder of what we cannot have. This 11 minute POV drive has some fantastic noises and really cool driving footage so it's very much worth the time.

But wait! There is hope for you yet wagon enthusiast. Audi did make some hot wagons back in the day and FCP Euro has parts for them to ensure they stay at peak performance. Audi did bring the RS 4 to the states in sedan form in 2007 and 2008 with its glorious V8 motor (here are some). They also made the S4 Avant and the most recent model you can pick up is a 2008 version (examples here). So while we can't have the new one, you can buy an S4 Avant, tune it, put some fun go fast bits on it, and still have a great time at a fraction of the cost of what a new one would be in Europe. I think that's considered a win win.

There's also been some INSANE builds on these Audi Avants in the US. Like this one here that sold on Bring a Trailer as described by our friends at Road & Track. It's beautiful and highly customized. This shows it is possible to create your own RS 4 without having to live in Europe.

As you may know, I'm a bit of a wagon enthusiast myself owning a 2005 Volvo V70R and would love nothing more than to see more hot wagons in the US. So Audi, do all us wagon, er, sorry, Avant (or is it estate? shooting brake?) snobs a favor and PLEASE bring this one (and the RS6 Avant while we're at it) over. We'll all buy one. We promise.

Who else wants to see this car here in the states?
