If your BMW M3 is going into limp mode and you don't know why there's a good chance that the throttle body actuators are to blame. BMW S65 engines are extremely prone to throttle body actuator failures. When these occur, they can and will throw your car into limp mode—the last thing you want on your commute home.

Throttle body actuator failure on the BMW E9X M3 can be costly if you go through the dealer. It's not uncommon for the repair bill to be $3000 or more for this job alone. By completing this repair yourself at home, you can save yourself thousands. Plus, as with everything we sell, these replacement actuators come with our Lifetime Replacement Guarantee, saving you even more money if they need to be replaced in the future.

When your actuators fail, you may receive error messages on your infotainment system, but this isn't always a given. Along with the error messages you'll usually have fault codes; the main three associated with throttle body actuator failure are:

  • Fault Code: CDC0 - Throttle Value Actuator CAN Message
  • Fault Code: 2B57 - Check At Lower Top
  • Fault Code: 2B21 - Predriver Check Throttle Valve Actuator
