BMW X5, 328i, Z4, & More GA6HP19Z Automatic Transmission Service Kit - Highlights And Product Review

BMW advertises that the fluid on the 6A6HP19Z transmission is a lifetime fill, meaning that you don't have to replace it for the lifetime of the vehicle. This, however, is misleading. ZF, who designs and manufactures these transmissions advises otherwise.

How long have you owned your BMW with the GA6HP19Z transmission, and do you know when or if the transmission fluid was replaced? If it has been more than 50,000 miles, it's critical that this fluid is replaced.

ZF, the engineer, and manufacture of the GA6HP19Z transmission advises that the transmission fluid and filter be replaced every 50,000 miles or eight years. BMW, on the other hand, advertises that the transmission fluid is lifetime and doesn't need replacing. What they really mean, is that the fluid should be replaced every 100,000 miles. We advise going with the manufacturer specification of 50,000 miles to protect your incredibly expensive transmission.
