Mercedes Bosch Spark Plugs Nate

There are a few signs that your spark plugs are due to be replaced. Spark plugs are often overlooked and/or ignored, so the first and most obvious sign is the mileage and age of the plug itself. The process of replacing plugs is simple, so there really isn't a reason to put off replacing them. With the W272/W273, Mercedes recommends 100,000 miles or four years, whichever comes first. We recommend replacing them sooner than that, as checking your spark plugs is a great way to monitor the health of your engine.

Continuing down the line of apparent signs, one you can't ignore is if you have a check engine light on. This can be, and is often caused by misfires due to fouled plugs. Since plugs are affordable and easy to replace yourself, replacing them is a good first step in diagnosing a check engine light.

Whether you have an check engine light on or not, you might also experience difficulty starting your car, rough idle or difficulty accelerating. If you're running into any of these issues, there's a good chance your old spark plugs are the culprit.

The last, potentially obvious, sign that it's time to change your spark plugs is poor fuel economy. According to the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence or ASE, poor spark plug performance can increase fuel consumption by up to thirty percent. For less than the price of a tank of gas, you can replace all your plugs and stop needlessly burning money every time you step on the accelerator (and your car will perform better while doing so).
