Frequent cleaning of your wheels isn't just to look good, it can actually be considered preventative maintenance. Here's a simple method using just a spray bottle and a hose that you can amplify should your wheels be in really rough shape.

Tools needed to clean your wheels:

Steps to clean your wheels:

Step 1: Spray wheels liberally with Sonax Wheel Cleaner

Shake your bottle of wheel cleaner and then liberally spray the entire DRY wheel. (It's OK to get a little overspray on the tire, just don't aim for it.)

Step 2: Let sit for a few minutes

Once the product turns purple, you'll know it's working. If your wheels are really in rough shape you can agitate the dust with a brush, or just spray more cleaner.

Step 3: Rinse, rinse, rinse

Using a hose, rinse the wheel thoroughly. Don't forget to pay extra attention to hard-to-drain areas like the wheel lugs and on the inside of the rim. For exceptionally dirty wheels, use a pressure washer to blast off the caked-on brake dust and grime.

Step 4: Protect

This step is completely optional, but very worthwhile should you want to prolong your deep, thorough wheel cleanings. Applying Sonax's Wheel Rim Shield in an even pattern over the wheel will make the wheel more resistant to dirt, brake dust and grime to make intermittent cleanings easier. Another bonus is that you'll use less cleaner the next time.

Simply shake the can well, and spray a light mist over the entire surface of your wheel. You don't need to worry if you get any on your tires. Let dry for ten minutes before driving.

Now, that's it. Your wheels should be looking as good as new and protected from future corrosion causing brake dust. Depending on how many miles you put on your car, you should do this every couple weeks. Make sure to check out all of Sonax's detailing products, and feel free to show off your clean cars in the comments below!
