From 2001-2004 the Volvo S60 and Volvo V70 interior has been known for one infamous imperfection, it's cup holder. The Volvo S60 cup holder lid was designed in the early days of the S60 & V70 to flip open instead of slide backward like the later designed unit. What this led to consequently was a broken top lid and a cracked housing due to either the driver or passenger in the vehicle smacking their arm into it, ultimately breaking the unit.

To make things worse, installing a new cup holder assembly was no small task as the center console needs to be removed and the unit bolts in from underneath. Because of this, most owners opted not to replace the unit to avoid labor charges especially since the cup holder was still functional. Below is a good example of just how lousy these cup holders look when they're broken, they really take away from the over all presentation of the interior.

The good news however is that these cup holders aren't actually all that difficult to replace if you know what's involved. There are a few easy steps that will allow you to remove the center console from the vehicle.

Tools Needed:

  1. Plastic Bone Tool
  2. Long flat head screwdriver
  3. 1/4" ratchet
  4. Long 1/4" extension
  5. 1/4" drive T-25 Torx Socket
  6. Pocket Screw Driver
